Labiaplasty Q&A
What is labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that decreases the size of your labia minora, which are the inner tissues of the female genitalia. The procedure uses surgical techniques to improve the size and overall appearance of your labia, reduce irritating symptoms, and help you gain confidence.
Why would I choose labiaplasty?
You might choose labiaplasty if you have long or sagging labia that bother you because of their appearance or the discomfort they can cause. For example, longer labia might be painful or rub against clothing during exercise.
They also increase your risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs) and discomfort during sex. Enlarged labia might cause a bulge if you wear tight clothing, and they can make personal hygiene more difficult.
Is labiaplasty right for me?
To determine if you’re a candidate for labiaplasty, Dr. Miller-Thrasher reviews your medical history, discusses your desired outcome, and examines your labia. She’ll let you know what to expect during the procedure and personalize your surgery based on the severity of your condition and your preferences.
How should I prepare for my surgery?
To get ready for labiaplasty, follow Dr. Miller-Thrasher’s instructions. Stop taking certain medications, don’t smoke, and arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure. You may have to avoid foods and drinks on the morning of your scheduled surgery.
What should I expect during labiaplasty?
Right before labiaplasty, you receive local anesthesia to numb the area with a sedative to relax you or general anesthesia to make you fall asleep. Dr. Miller-Thrasher makes tiny incisions to remove, reconstruct, or tighten labia tissue before closing the incisions. The procedure could last about an hour, but every patient is different.
What happens after labiaplasty?
You can rest in a recovery area at Innovative Women’s HealthCare Solutions after labiaplasty before a friend or family member drives you home. Follow all of Dr. Miller-Thrasher’s post-surgery instructions to care for your healing labia.
Get plenty of rest, take medications as directed by Dr. Miller-Thrasher, ice the area if needed, and avoid strenuous physical activity until they give you the okay. Keep the surgical site clean, and don’t wear tight undergarments until the area heals. Avoid sexual intercourse until permitted by Dr. Miller-Thrasher.
If you’re considering labiaplasty, you can expect Innovative Women’s HealthCare Solutions to exceed your expectations. Call the nearest office or book an appointment online today.
